Y.E.R.M.O. - Seeds of Dharma

This is 32 minutes of slow and soothing melodies. Like the recent Y.E.R.M.O. output on Humpty Dumpty Records, "From Gold Falls a Bad Rain", it's just one robust track. Sounding like a mixture of digital and organic floating tones, it refers to liturgical (the seeds of Dharma are more or less the Buddhist way of saying people have the ability to make ethic choices) chants and music, building up an atmosphere of introspection and silence. It seems to have no starting point, nor an ending, only a massive body of featherlight sounds. This is music hesitating between being deafening and disintegrating. "Seeds of Dharma" comes in a cardboard box, silkscreened by Niels Latomme, and is only available as a limited edition.

ts for rifraf: "De dwarse stijloefening 'From God Falls A Bad Rain' ligt nog maar net af te koelen, en daar zijn Yannick Franck en Xavier Dubois al met 'Seeds Of Dharma.' Ook hier gaat het om een lang uitgesponnen compositie die geleidelijk naar een kookpunt werkt, maar in plaats van Throbbing Gristle verwijst Y.E.R.M.O. op deze plaat meer naar de Kranky-catalogus - en helaas ook nu met een licht gebrek aan intensiteit. 'Seeds Of Dharma' is een experimentele litanie van een dik halfuur, compleet met zwevende tonen en een melodieuze opbouw. Jammer alleen dat de conclusie ontbreekt, zodat de plaat eigenlijk meer uitdooft dan losbarst. Mooi, dat wel, maar iets meer pit had toch gemogen."
